The Matrix

Plot tasks on two axes:

This creates four quadrants:

Quick Wins (High Impact, Low Effort)

Tasks that deliver significant value with minimal effort.

Action: Do these immediately and prioritize them.

Major Projects (High Impact, High Effort)

Important initiatives requiring substantial resources.

Action: Plan carefully and allocate dedicated time.

Fill-Ins (Low Impact, Low Effort)

Small tasks with minimal value but easy to complete.

Action: Do when you have spare time or energy.

Hard Slogs (Low Impact, High Effort)

Tasks requiring substantial effort for little return.

Action: Eliminate, delegate, or reconsider entirely.

How to Use

  1. List all potential tasks
  2. Estimate effort for each (Low/Medium/High)
  3. Estimate impact for each (Low/Medium/High)
  4. Plot on matrix
  5. Act according to quadrant
